Director Of Port's Welcome Message

Welcome to the Port of Tema Webpage

The Port of Tema contributes significantly to the economic growth of Ghana. As Ghana’s biggest port, we have invested millions of dollars in port infrastructure to improve our operational efficiency in order to meet the growing demands of maritime trade and logistics supply chain.

Our goal is to transform the Port of Tema into the leading container hub in West Africa. The Port of Tema Expansion is designed to provide a world-class harbour infrastructure for the next 100 years. The completion of the works for the first phase of the project which comprises of 3 berths with 1000 metre total quay length and a 16m draft was marked in June 2020.  This in  effect has instantly increased the container handling capacity of the Port of Tema from 1 Million to 2.5 Million TEUS.

The Port of Tema  operates an Integrated Management System in line with ISO 14001:2015 (environmental management), ISO 9001:2015 (quality management) and OHSAS 18001:2007 (occupational health and safety). We are in the process of implementing Jade Master Terminal System to enhance our operational activities. A paperless port clearance process, introduced in September 2017, has reduced cargo clearance time and also improved cargo dwell time in the port.

The Port of Tema is the gateway to our landlocked neighbours i.e. Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. Our transit corridors have been freed of most of the inspection barriers which hitherto caused unnecessary delays and increased the cost of transportation to the landlocked countries. We will continue to provide quality services and high operational standards in our operations to make the Port of Tema the most efficient port in the sub-region.

Thank you for visiting our website and you are always welcome to do business with us.
