1 DISTRICT, 1 EXPORTABLE PRODUCT STRATEGY TO HELP GEPA ACHIEVE $5.3BN EXPORT TARGET – CEO

Ghana Exports Promotion Authority (GEPA) has set for itself an ambitious target of $5.3 billion in trade volume of Non-Traditional Exports (NTE) by 2021.

Chief Executive Officer of GEPA, Afua Asabea Asare who disclosed this to a gathering of exports stakeholders believed that the target though ambitious is achievable considering the initiatives being implemented by her outfit.

Speaking at the 78th National Exporters' Forum in Accra, GEPA CEO reaffirmed her outfit’s commitment to ensuring the manifestation of their mandate to ensure that the country's exports sector is vibrant and contributes as it should to the nation's growth and development agenda.
“These interventions and many more which we are doing in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Food and Agriculture will eventuality ensure an increased and sustained supply with your support and corporation for exports,” she said.

She said GEPA has over the past year been committed to a number of strategic interventions geared increasing the contribution of Non-Traditional Exports, from current $2.55 to $5.3 billion by the end of 2021.
“An export village is already being built, it is expected that the beads production at Buipe will increase thereby feeding local and international market,” she added.   
Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, a Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, said the Ministry had outlined a number of strategic interventions, which included; the National Industrial Revitalisation Programme with a stimulus fund of $200 million to support distressed but commercially viable companies, the One District, One Factory Initiative and the Export Development and Diversification Programme.
“The export development and diversification component of these initiatives espouses the need to evolve a clear national export strategy aimed at diversification, competiveness and development of more export market for an expanded range of product.”
He used the occasion to launch the Buyer Portal of the Market Hub, which would serve as a one-stop shop with resources and information on international trade for exporters.
